Highway remains closed for 4th day

Following fresh landslides and shooting stones at several places, traffic on Srinagar- Jammu highway remained suspended on fourth consecutive day on Monday.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Traffic, Highway J S Johar told Rising Kashmir that highway is still blocked at several places and there was massive landslide at Dalwas.

“The men and machinery are on the job. However, it will take further time to clear the debris. The decision regarding allowing vehicular movement will be taken after clearance of the highway,” he said.

SP said about 1100 vehicles carrying essential commodities from both sides of Srinagar and Jammu are stranded on the highway.

On Friday, the highway was closed for traffic after landslides and shooting stones at several places.

Due to closure of highway, the valley is facing shortage of essentials including fruits, vegetables and other commodities.

Meanwhile, weatherman predicted rains in plains and light snowfall in upper reaches from March 31 till April 2.
Director Metrological department, Kashmir, Sonam Lotus told Rising Kashmir that they were expecting another spell of moderate rains from Tuesday night till Thursday afternoon.
