CUK to hold paper and pen exams, students protest

Srinagar: Central University of Kashmir (CUK) has decided to hold pen and paper exams for more than 500 candidates having backlogs in different subjects, in the last week of August.

The education system has been severely disturbed due to the pandemic. All educational institutions are closed and universities are holding online examinations to promote students to next semester.

However, the Central University of Kashmir has scheduled offline examination for candidates having backlog, in the last week of August at their Ganderbal campus.

Many students who are from other states and union territories are worried as they cannot travel to Kashmir given the lockdown.

Suhail Ahmad, a candidate from Bhaderwah town of District Doda told The Kashmir Monitor that it is impossible for him to reach Ganderbal given the travel restrictions.

“I am a final semester student of legal studies and I have a backlog in international trade law. If I miss this paper, my degree will not be complete. I will have to wait for one more year to clear this paper. University should go for online examinations,” Suhail said.

Muhammad Razza, another candidate from Saliskote village of Kargil said that due to the pandemic, he has to apply for permission to travel to Kashmir and it will be only given when he undergoes COVID-19 test.

“I am currently in semester 5 of BA-LLB. I have a backlog in two subjects. At this time I cannot even manage travel expenses to reach Kashmir which is around Rs 3000-4000 because the lockdown has disrupted my father’s business,” he said.
